Overview
A "positional" TRIM digital map contains positionally correct, complete, edited map data for one map sheet. The data consists of all digital planimetric data compiled directly by stereo compilation. No positional adjustments of data to eliminate conflicts shall be performed on this file.
TRIM positional maps are produced by the Terrain Resource Information Management Program in the Provincial Baseline Atlas program area.
Product Details
Digital Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) topographic database at 1:20 000 for the Province of BC.
A number of spatial themes are included such as contours, water bodies and roads and railways. Minimal attribute data is available. TRIM data contains enhanced road and hydrographic networks and additional land cover features such as cut blocks and log landings.
The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is available for an additional cost.
The data may be ordered in the following formats: MOEP Binary Compressed, SAIF/ZIP , DGN (Microstation) or Arc Shape (base map)/Arc Generate (DEM). If SAIF/ZIP format is ordered, one file will be delivered to you, which contains all of the map data for the map sheet. If an MOEP Positional product is ordered, five files are delivered for each map sheet:
- Digital Elevation Model (example)- a series of mass points and breaklines defining the earth's surface.
- Raw Contours (example) at a 20 metre interval (derived from the DEM file).
- Non-positional - control points, bridge, deck and tower heights, etc.
- Planimetric (example) - all man-made features such as roads, buildings, fences, etc., and natural features such as streams, lakes, swamps, etc.
- Toponymy - official place names, such as Prince George, Capilano River, etc.
All TRIM positional digital maps are available in either MOEP format or SAIF/ZIP format, which are both vendor independent formats developed by GeoData BC. Both formats are widely supported by the GIS software industry and by GIS consultants. The MOEP specification is contained within the TRIM specification, and this specification book is available in a hard copy format at nominal cost through Trafford Publishing Ltd. An online version of the TRIM 1:20 000 Specifications (Volume 3, January 1992) in PDF format is also available for viewing.
TRIMTRACK
TRIMTRACK is a "Team Track" reporting utility, which will give the user an effective avenue for reporting defects they may find in the TRIM dataset.
