What is GeoBC?

GeoBC is a government-wide initiative that focuses on:

  1. Statutory responsibility (i.e., adjudications and applications) for geographic and land information under the Ministry of Environment and Lands Act.
  2. Coordination, integration, and management of provincial geographic information, tools, products, and services through a single window - the GeoBC Gateway.
  3. Enhancing the role of geography in serving government, business and the citizens of British Columbia. GeoBC will create the infrastructure and systems to enable and make accessible provincial geographic information through a wide range of applications and software.

GeoBC’s responsibilities include managing the provincial geographic information warehouse (the Land and Resource Data Warehouse or LRDW); the provincial GIS infrastructure; a comprehensive registry of rights and interests in Crown land (the Integrated Land and Resource Registry or ILRR); the authoritative province-wide topographic, planimetric, aerial photography and image data sources; and, delivering associated value added information products and analytical services.
